NEW: The History of Pi Rho: A Multimedia Presentation Click Here Click here for Historical Archives + Photographs Summer, 2000Jack Gryn, a student at Ryerson and a 2nd year brother of the Eta Pi chapter of Alpha Epsilon Pi at York, realizes that there is a need for more Jewish social activities at Ryerson. In May of 2000, he decided that in order to fulfill this goal, a new chapter of AEPi must be created at Ryerson. At that time, he was also the president of the Ryerson Jewish Student Association. That Summer, he decided to use whatever resources he had to start up this new group. Him, along with Brian Wolk, another brother (1st year) of Eta Pi who went to Ryerson, held a few unofficial gatherings that Summer to see how things go. September 19, 2000A group of bright students meet with AEPi Director of Chapter Services Andy Borans and Tau Omega brother Ilan Barda at the Oakham House in downtown Toronto, determined to form the first fraternity at Ryerson Polytechnic University. The new colony of Alpha Epsilon Pi would be named "Pi Rho", as chosen by its members. This point in history would not only mark the birth of a new colony of Alpha Epsilon Pi, but the birth of a whole new Greek (Fraternity/Sorority) system at Ryerson. The Pi Rho Colony of Alpha Epsilon Pi would become the first fraternity at Ryerson. Jack Gryn would be elected the first ever Master of the colony, and at his side would be Jacob Moshinsky - Lieutenant Master, Brian Wolk - Scribe, Michael Goldberg - Exchequer, and Brett Okorofsky - Rush Chair. November 19, 2000Thirteen students are initiated as Pi Rho Founding Fathers in Montreal, Quebec. The initiation was led by brother Master Jack Gryn, with the help of Brian Wolk and brothers of the Epsilon Chi chapter at McGill University. One week later, Justin Azaria would become the 14th and final Founding Father. Until the formation of the Pi Rho Colony, Jack Gryn and Brian Wolk have been active brothers of the Eta Pi Chapter of Alpha Epsilon Pi at York University while attending school at Ryerson. Our colony, here at Ryerson University, was established in mid-September 2000. Through determination and pride in their religious heritage, the following 14 Founding Fathers created the Pi Rho Colony of Alpha Epsilon Pi:
Shortly after, brother Ilan Barda would be named the Chapter Advisor for Pi Rho Realizing the necessity of a Jewish presence on campus, these men have devoted time and effort (along with Alpha & Beta Class members) to draft a constitution is currently and will be in use for years to come. The Pi Rho Colony has set up a system where Jewish men who attend Ryerson shall have a mechanism by which they can associate with other Jewish men in order to further develop a sense of leadership and organizational skills.

Ryerson Orientation does not tell new students / first year students / first-year 's / freshman / frosh about fraternities, sororites and other social or leadership activities! There is no reason why orientation does not provide first year students (first-year 's/ frosh ) with information about real social life on campus! Orientation should tell the frosh / first-year 's about leadership activities! Jewish Fraternity for Ryerson students / Alpha Epsilon Pi / Campus Social Life @ Ryerson / Jewish Life at Ryerson / AEPi is a Jewish Fraternity for Jewish leaders / first-year students / first-year's / frosh / Ryerson students (our future leadership) are welcome from orientation! Social life at Ryerson is enhanced by joining a fraternity. Joining a fraternity is as useful through your university career as is orientation in frosh week. Alpha Epsilon Pi gives you a Jewish leadership experience that will enhance your social life and prepare you for the real world. "AEPi is an orientation for the real world", "AEPi turned me into a leader", "I joined AEPi in my first year during frosh week at Ryerson and since then, it has helped me learn to give back to the community (Ryerson & Jewish Community) while keeping my social life and improving my time-management and leadership skills.", "The two things I remember most about Ryerson were orientation (frosh week) in my first year, and my fraternity.", "In my first-year, I couldn't find my way around campus, frosh/orientation helped a little, but a brother of AEPi showed me around, I have been a member ever since and am now part of the fraternity's Jewish leadership." Before first-year I was worried that I wouldn't know anybody in my first year of university, then I met someone in orientation during frosh week who was also in first-year that was joining a fraternity, my leadership skills and social life improved!" "My parents always told me I should get involved in Jewish groups; I never listened because I thought they were only about religion, I should have listened earlier! AEPi is not only about being Jewish or just a Jewish fraternity, it is about leadership, having fun, and being proud of who you are!" |
